There are literally thousands of companies out there that have a website and business phone number and mailing address and etc. yet, there are only a handful of them that can perform internet marketing and search engine optimization. The majority of them have either little, or expensive marketing teams to do it for them. And those marketing teams do not come cheap.

What about the big national companies that happen to be listed at the top of the search engines? They can afford to have expensive marketing people to do everything for them. Some of them will want to have your company’s website set up as their ‘ception landing page’. This is a sight that will make your head spin, but to know that some people have taken advantage of this, somehow, yes it is true. Some SEO companies know how to set up and market their client’s websites. But, the rest of us have found out more or less, or have taught ourselves how to do it, not nearly as well as these pro SEO companies. There are basic rules of SEO that you need to know and keep in mind when you are performing SEO on your company’s website. Without these basics, your website will not get listed in the search engines.

Here is a basic SEO rule: have relevant, unique, descriptive & local web content. This may sound like a basic SEO rule, but it is a remarkable fact. Every company wants to be listed in the top 5 for the keywords that they choose, but few companies have any idea how to get there, or less likely, how to keep them there. Upon searching online for such companies, you will find that many of them list search engine optimization as one of their specialties. This may be true, but you need to find out before you hire them, or you will be surprised, and probably deeply disappointed. Your website has to have content that is relevant to what people are searching for. Because you are an obscure visitor, no one will find you, and search engines will not list your website. Instead, search engines will list the many other companies that have relevant content that is searchable – and that are probably the companies that you want to do business with. Make sure that your website really does have very good content. Now, here is where it gets good: If you have good content, and many relevant links, then you probably will show up in the Google search results. And if you maintain that good content, you will likely rank well in the other search engines as well. This means that your company is listed in most places on the internet like in Google listing, which means that you are visible. And who doesn’t want that?
